Join RMD in a Motor Car excursion on the Colorado Pacific Rio Grande Railroad featuring LaVeta Pass

Rocky Mountain Division of NARCOA will be hosting a motorcar run on the CPRG (Formerly the SLRG) Saturday and Sunday May 11 and 12, 2024.

  – Set on will start at 8:30 am on Saturday May 11 Alamosa, Colorado. Exact location will be sent to those registering for this excursion.

  – Safety meeting scheduled for 9:30 am. Departure to Antonito is planned for 9:30 pending any freight moves. If conflicting freight operations are scheduled, the test run will be to Monte Vista instead. NOTE: This Saturday run is a MANDITORY test run for any car planning to run over LaVeta pass on the following day. Alamosa to Antonito and return,  RT approximately 56 miles. This run features speeds up to 25 mph, your car MUST be able to keep up track speed and make a successful run in order to qualify for running on Sunday’s run over LaVeta Pass. Return is expected around 3:30 PM.

  – Sunday’s (May 12) departure to LaVeta is currently planned for 8:00 AM (7:45 AM safety briefing). There will be a 1-hour lunch break at the town of LaVeta. Return arrival to Alamosa is tentatively planned by 5:00 PM. RT approximately 124 miles.

Key Safety Items:
  – All cars must be equipped with spark arrestors
  – All cars must have a chock or chain for tie down when stopped
  – All cars will be inspected for proper brake activation during set on.
  – All cars running over LaVeta Pass MUST complete the Saturday test run to Antonito.
  – This is a high altitude run, with LaVeta Pass at 9300 feet, featuring 3% continuous          grades for 7 miles EB, 14 miles WB.

All other NARCOA rules apply to this run.
